Last year we planted some potatoes and when we where planting the potatoes today for the superspud competition, Coiln found a potato from last year! It was rather weird.

It was wet and windy when we went to plant the superspud pototoes in the raised bed that we made out of a old bench.

Sam and Colin took some photos of  us planting the potatoes.

We put some new  compost in the raised bed when we where planting the potatoes and we found a lot of worms.

Measuring straight lines… March 7, 2008

Filed under: Uncategorized — acharacleworldbookday @ 10:42 am

One of the activities in the Count and Grow pack is to measure straight lines.  We thought we could do the activity but in a more interesting way.

Original worksheet

As the Learning Outcome is simply to be able to measure accurately things which are straight, we found a more innovative way of doing this.  Taking only straight edges in the classroom, we’ve used a coloured, centimetre banded ruler to show their lengths.

Launching the competition March 5, 2008

Today we found out about a competition which might win us a prize!  We can win it by growing some potatoes.

We looked through worksheets to try to find a more interesting and innovatitve way of doing the project.

We have entered the competition and we have to grow potatoes and fill out some worksheets.  We thought the worksheets were a bit dull so we’ve come up with our own, more interesting versions with the same Learming Outcomes.

We have been talking about the competition which is called “Count and Grow.”  The RHET sent us six seed potatoes which Kerry, Emma and Rosie have just put on the windowsill to “chit.”
